The Publication Division of the State Archives holds a rich collection of books based on research using the primary sources preserved in the State Archives. It has published catalogues of Mughal documents, Farmans of the Asaf Jahs, and translations of selected documents of the Deccan Sultans, as well as lists and details of freedom fighters of Hyderabad among many other titles on different historical subjects. These publications are available for sale and are reprinted whenever stocks are exhausted.
The Division also brings out the Itihas Journal, which features articles by prominent historians and scholars. To date, 43 volumes of this journal, published since 1973, are available.
The journal Itihas: Historical and Archival Research Journal of Telangana was first published in 1973 under the State Archives and Research Institute, Hyderabad.
The idea behind starting Itihas was to provide scholars especially historians, researchers access to archival materials, facilitate systematic research using original records, and publish findings based on these. It served as a vehicle for publishing work based on primary sources in the region, giving visibility to documents stored in the archives.
Contributions are invited from all research scholars of history on topics related to local, medieval, or modern history, preferably with use of primary sources from the State Archives.
